03.28.23 – Falling and Flying

He empowers the feeble and infuses the powerless with increasing strength. 30 Even young people faint and get exhausted; athletic ones may stumble and fall.
31 But those who wait for Yahweh’s grace will experience divine strength. They will rise on soaring wings and fly like eagles, run their race without growing weary, and walk through life without giving up. Isaiah 40:29-31

We come to one of the most memorable and oft-quoted passages in Isaiah, God’s promise to empower us with Divine strength.

Picturing ourselves as eagles soaring in clear skies far above the limitations of the earth is something we can only imagine when we feel overwhelmed. The good news is this power comes by passivity. It is not we who grasp or earn power or declare it by an act of our mighty faith.

Look at the setting again, this is someone who is completely exhausted and at the point of passing out. The only thing they have is a promise that if they wait, trust, and serve God faithfully where they are, He will strengthen them. They make it because of their absolute trust in God who guides and equips them and this causes them to rise above the challenges.
