What God Starts He Completes – September 10, 2023

Listen! A sound of uproar is coming from the city a sound from the temple! It is the thunderf of Yahweh as he completely punishes his enemies! 7 Zion gave birth suddenly, even before going into labor. She delivered a son without any painful contractions. 8 Who has ever seen or heard of such a wonder? Could a country be born in a day? Can a nation be birthed so suddenly? Yet no sooner does Zion go into labor than she gives birth to sons! 9 Yahweh, your God, says, “Do I allow you to conceive and not to give birth? Do I shut the womb when I’m the one who delivers?” Isaiah 66:6-9

God can do in a moment what man can not accomplish in a lifetime. Here is the rebirth of Jerusalem after the seventy year captivity in Babylon. In one day God moves on the heart of the Persian King Cyrus to release the Israelites to go back and rebuild the Temple. There are many accounts in the Bible of God delivering His people or providing resources or turning a battle. God can do miracles beyond our capacity to grasp. This picture or metaphor used here is a quick and painless childbirth. Wouldn’t every pregnant woman want to believe for this experience?

What Isaiah is saying is that God is not limited by natural laws or our timeframe. He is outside our time so He can insert Himself into our world and our lives at any point. His supernatural power and authority allows God to intervene and suddenly change any circumstance. There is no need for us to go through painful processes unless God wants us to grow through the pain or the waiting. He promises in the end He will not ignore us or leave us, but will accomplish what He began. This is what the Apostle Paul believed when he wrote, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” (Phil. 1:6).
