Polished and Purposed – 05.21.23

Listen to what I have to say, you islands. Pay attention to me, you who live in distant lands.

Yahweh called me as his own before I was born and named me while I was still in my mother’s womb.

2 He gives me words that pierce and penetrate. He hid me and protected me in the shadow of his hand. He prepared me like a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver. 3 And he said to me, “Israel, you are my special servant; in you I will be glorified.” Isaiah 49:1-3

What an incredible sense of value and destiny in a preborn life. More than just a clump of cells under the exclusive choice of a mother, we were called before we were born and named by God. Valued by our Creator with purpose and significance.

This passage of course points prophetically to Jesus. The Father hid Jesus away in Nazareth for 30 years preparing Him to be a voice and an arrow in His hand. It takes time to polish an arrow in such a way that it goes through tough exteriors and gets to the heart.  Jesus’ words of truth pierced the hearts of people who had believed lies about God and themselves.

I pray for mothers to receive revelation into God’s incredible design of the child they have conceived. When tempted to believe the lie that their life and the world would be better if their child’s life were ended, they would instead embrace God’s truth. This truth is that regardless of the circumstances in which we were conceived or born, God created us with purpose.
