God is a Covenant Keeper – 05.24.23

Yahweh says: “When the time of showing you favor has come, I will answer your heart’s cry. I will help you in the day of salvation, for I have fixed my eyes on you. I have made you a covenant people to restore the land and to resettle families on forgotten inheritances. 9 You will declare to prisoners, ‘You’re free!’ and to those in darkness, ‘Step out into the light!’ They will be like sheep that graze beside the roads and find pasture on the barren hillside. Isaiah 49:8-9

Our God is a covenant keeping God. If He makes a promise we can be assured God will come through. This is why we seek a closer relationship with Jesus through worship and listening and meditating on His word. He promises to provide all the stuff we need. As I’ve heard it said, “we seek the heart of God not just the hand of God, we seek the giver not just the gift”.

The Father takes care of us as children who simply trust Him and go about His business. Picture a worker who nervously and continually goes to their boss and asks, “you really are going to pay me Friday, right?” The employer would eventually be looking for a new employee because of the lack of trust and probably a lack of anything being accomplished.

God certainly will not fire us. But we do miss out on the joy and peace we can experience knowing God is faithful and being free to focus on other’s needs rather than just our own.If we are not free we cannot declare freedom to others in any convincing way. If we are in the dark, how can we lead others to the light? We trust God with the temporary stuff of life like sheep who trust their shepherd.

Today, focus solely on God Himself. Even though there is nothing wrong with presenting our needs to God, just try not asking for anything other than to be close to God and to be led by His Spirit. Watch how He takes care of the rest.
