“He will come to Zion as a Kinsman-Redeemer to those of Jacob’s tribes who repent of their rebellion,” says Yahweh.
21“And this is my covenant promise with them,” says Lord Yahweh. “From now on, my Holy Spirit will rest on them and not depart from them, and my prophetic words will fill their mouths and will not depart from them, nor from their children, nor from their descendants, from now on and forever,” says Lord Yahweh. Isaiah 59:20-21
Isaiah once again points to the future when Jesus, our Kinsman-Redeemer will come to free the people who desire Him. In the book of Ruth we see Boaz as the Kinsman-Redeemer who rescues Ruth. This is a theme throughout the Old Testament, the anticipation of God coming to rescue His people.
Jesus comes and inaugurates a New Covenant through His death. He not only saves us but He also dwells within us by the Holy Spirit. Under the Old Covenant the Holy Spirit would come upon people or give them words to speak or empower them for a moment, but He could not dwell in them because of their sin nature. Now that Jesus has redeemed us through His sacrifice for our sins on the cross we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us continually (1 John 2:27).
God promises His words will always be available to us for generations to come. We teach our descendants to be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit and not rebel against God.
What if we so valued the leading of God that we wouldn’t move or make decisions without hearing from Him? Or, if we wouldn’t speak unless we sensed He was giving us the words to say?
Let’s take every opportunity to be empowered by the indwelling presence of God and speak His words.
