Lift up your eyes higher! Look all around you and believe, for your sons are returning from far away and your daughters are being tenderly carried home. Watch as they all gather together, eager to come back to you!” Isaiah 60:4
We live in a time where we are flooded with a lot of negative news and opinions. Even if we try to ignore what is being reported in the media we still have social media and conversations with people that focus on all the bad that is happening and disasters that seem imminent. If the environment or some plague doesn’t kill us then ai robots probably will.
Isaiah calls us to lift our eyes higher. See the world from where Christ has seated us with Him at the right hand of God. See what God is doing. This raises our faith to pray more significant prayers that have an eternal effect in the lives of people. We’re to call sons and daughters, biological and spiritual, who are far from God to come home to Him. Rather than worry about their political views, or how many tattoos they have, our focus is joined with Jesus’ on their hearts. We pray the Holy Spirit will draw them so they become the next generation of the church.
John Wimber always challenged us in the Vineyard to see where God is at work and join Him there. God is working in every generation. We can either criticize them or see them with eyes of love and compassion and see opportunities to pray and connect and invite them into our homes and hearts. This is what enabled the Jesus Movement in the 70s to reach thousands of young adults.
Let’s partner with God in loving this generation into relationship with Jesus.
