Making Sense of Life and Death – July 10, 2023

Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die. Isaiah 57:1‭-‬2

Here once again we are challenged to view life and death from God’s perspective. Our view is so finite. All we can think of is our loss and the lost potential in the life of the person who has passed away.

Isaiah says it is God, in His love who is protecting the person from some evil they would face further into life. Here we choose to embrace God’s wisdom and love to stop the loop of sorrow. If we truly embrace death as a promotion and reward we would celebrate someone’s passing probably more than we do. The person we loved and who followed God, has finished their race or completed their time on earth and entered into an eternal rest and reward. They’ve won!

This perspective may not make sense this side of Heaven. There have been many untimely deaths I have to put in a mental folder to be addressed in eternity. But, I have this feeling though that the moment I see Jesus face to face in eternity I will forget all about that folder. All my questions will be gone and it will all make sense.
