Going Against the Flow: A New Perspective

You know, there’s something about seeing the world from a different angle that really gets me thinking. Ever had that moment where everyone seems to be rushing toward something, but you feel like you’re walking the other way? It might feel a little crazy, but maybe there’s more to it.

CS Lewis, one of my favorite thinkers, once said, “When the whole world is running toward a cliff, he who is running in the opposite direction appears to have lost his mind.” It’s a bit like going against the flow, isn’t it?

And then there’s what Jesus said in Matthew 7:14. It’s about the narrow path that leads to life and the broad way that leads to destruction. For the longest time, I thought of these as two separate roads. Picture it: I’m on the narrow path, then I mess up, hop over to the wide road, and then I repent and scramble back to the narrow one.

But, during a prayer one day, I had this revelation. God seemed to say, Tony, it’s actually the same road, just different directions. Mind blown, right?

I questioned, “Why is the path narrow for believers?” And the answer was simple yet profound:

“Because so many people are moving the other direction. You’re fighting against the crowd.”

Think about it.

  • It’s not about jumping from road to road.
  • It’s about the direction you’re heading.
  • Are you going against the grain, or are you getting swept up with everyone else?

It feels like we’re always in this struggle, right? Going against the crowd isn’t easy. It requires strength, conviction, and sometimes, a little bit of courage. But isn’t that what makes it worth it?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Have you ever felt like you’re on the same road, just heading in a different direction? What does that look like for you? Let’s chat about it.
