A House Big Enough for All – July 8, 2023

And to the foreigners who join themselves to Yahweh to worship him, those who want to be his servants and love the name of Yahweh— all who honor the Sabbath and do not disregard it, and who remain true to my covenant—I make this promise:

7 ‘I will welcome you into my holy mountain and make you joyful in my house of prayer. I will accept every sacrifice and offering that you place on my altar, for my house of worship will be known as a house of prayer for all people.’” 8 The Lord God Almighty, who brings home the outcasts of Israel, says, “There are many others I will gather, and I will add them to those who are already gathered.” Isaiah 56:6-8

When we read these words our thoughts immediately go to the New Testament story of Jesus going through the Temple and turning over the tables of the merchants and money changers.  These people were excluding the women and Gentiles from worshiping by taking over their place in the courtyard.  Here they set up bizarres to make money off worshippers coming to Jerusalem for the annual feasts. Jesus quotes Isaiah,

“My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers” (Mark 11:17).

God is always open to any honest seeker who comes to Him and He is against anyone who stands in their way.  God welcomes everyone and invites them in. He offers joy in His presence, acceptance, and a place in His family. No matter where we’ve come from or what we’ve come through, our Father has open arms.

There are some rules to follow in God’s family. We are called to love and serve God and honor the Sabbath as a time to experience His presence.  These seem to be essentials to God, they should be to us as well.
