But is This God's King?

“When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily. But wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability.” Proverbs 28:2 NLT

But which government administration is this referring to? The current or former?

If you lean a little to the right politically, you see it clearly in the current leadership. If you see more left-leaning, you see it through an opposite lens.

Which is correct?

In his book, A Tale of Three Kings, Gene Edwards asks which king is after King Saul, King David, or Absalom. He concludes that only God knows, and He doesn’t tell.

How does that help us today? What is Edward’s point?

If we lean toward the idea that this government is King David, we will trust man rather than God. If we see this current leadership as the rebellious King Saul, we will see everything through a dark lens and feel oppressed.

What is the answer? We follow Jesus, who reminded Pontius Pilate,

“You would have no authority over me, had it not been given you from above” John 19:11.

God tells us how we are to respond.

1. We are to love Jesus with all our hearts and follow Him each day as He leads us to show kindness to every person we encounter.

2. Pray for “kings and all who are in authority” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

This is not having our heads in the sand or in the clouds. It is keeping attuned to Jesus, the true King. Each of us trusting Him to lead each of us in how we live and respond to any earthly king.
