“Take a good look at my servant! I love him dearly, for he is my chosen one. I have taken hold of him in my strength, and I have clothed him with my Spirit. He will cause justice to spring up for the nations. Isaiah 42:1
Isaiah now turns his focus to the coming Messiah, Jesus. For the next several chapters Isaiah paints a prophetic picture of Jesus’ nature and character, Divinity clothed in humanity, greatness wrapped in humility.
Over the next several days we will get a fresh glimpse of Jesus and His Father’s love for Him. Remember, this is the same love the Father has for us. When Isaiah writes about God’s love and support for His Servant He is seeing us through the same lens. This is why Jesus taught us to pray, “Our Father who is in Heaven.”
It is not what Jesus did that pleased His Father, it was who He was, God’s Son. You and I spark the same joy in our Heavenly Father. We have been clothed with the same Holy Spirit that empowered Jesus and even raised Him from the dead.
We can either stand on the outside observing this beautiful prophetic picture through the lens of history and theology or we can take our seat at the table as children of God and ask our Father to reveal more of Jesus and more of His love for us.
