02.15.23 Plowing & Planting

Hear my voice, listen to my words, and pay close attention to my parable.y 24 Does a farmer plow continually at planting time and never plant a crop? Does he continually break open the clods of the ground and never sow his seed? 25 Once he has leveled its surface, does he not sow dill and cumin, planting his wheat in rows, his barley in its proper place, and his rye in a patch? Isaiah 28:23-25

The last few days I’ve shared a little of my journey through brokenness and repentance as God healed issues from my past that were hindering me from knowing and following Him.

Here, Isaiah brings a comforting parable of God’s love and the other side of brokenness.
Plowing has a purpose. Turning over the hard soil makes the ground ready for planting so fruit can be born which is the purpose of the land.

‘Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you.’ Hosea 10:12

Jesus emphasized this in His parable of the sower or soils, Matthew 13:1–23, Mark 4:1–20, Luke 8:4–15.

In John 15, Jesus tells his disciples that He wants them to bear fruit.
Brokenness and repentance are not just penance for our wrongs. This is the means by which we humbly accept Jesus as Lord and Leader of our lives.

So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. James 1:21
